THE Venus cow family continued its success in the Illawarra ring with Glenbrook Venus 29 claiming the senior champion ribbon.
The Glenbrook Venus name has been a common one in the winner’s circle at the Royal Adelaide Show across the years, with this latest addition to the family winning its ribbon as a five-year-old in-milk cow, while only three week’s fresh.
Breeder Ian Mueller, Glenbrook, Murray Bridge, said this cow was the daughter of Glenbrook Venus 19, which won the interbreed intermediate champion at Adelaide in 2009, and came back three year’s later to again win interbreed senior champion in 2012.
Judge Damen Phillips, Toowoomba, Qld, said Venus 29 had the advantage with its mammary system.
“It really wins on the rear udder,” he said. “There is so much width; it’s a great foreudder and great texture.”
Reserve senior champion went to Springvale Princess 18, Springvale Enterprises, Murray Bridge.
Springvale was also the exhibitor of the intermediate champion, 2.5-year-old in-milk Springvale Clarrabelle 6, which Mr Phillips described as a “sweet, balanced” entry, while also praising its “capacious” udder.
Reserve intermediate champion was Glenbrook Belle 63 from the Muellers.
Ian and Julie Mueller also bred the juvenile champion, two-year-old dry Glenbrook Sylvie, which Mr Phillips called a “showy heifer”.
“It’s a heifer that takes the eye,” he said.
Reserve juvenile went to Glenbrook Petal 28, exhibited by MJ&LG Miegel, Murray Bridge.
The Muellers were announced as the most successful exhibitors in the Illawarra breed.
