A EIGHT-year-old cow, on its sixth calf, is following in its mother’s footsteps and claiming its second senior champion ribbon in the Guernsey ring.
Keywyn Aron Columbine, which previously won the broadribbon as a rising four-year-old in 2013, is out of Keywyn Columbine Nitro, which won the Guernsey senior champion in 2010, 2011 and 2012, and was interbreed supreme cow at the Royal Adelaide Show in 2011.
Judge Stuart Lehman, Yolla, Tas, said he admired the older cow for its strength of foreudder and capacity.
“There is a lot of dairy strength and openness throughout this cow,” he said.
The champion was prepared by Jacob Fiebiger, Keywyn Farms, who described it as a “pretty handy cow”.
“It’s been around for a while,” he said.
“Poppa (Ray Fiebiger) picked it out when it was younger and it has performed.
“It’s still pretty youthful with the udder stuck on tightly.”
Reserve champion went to Joshlee Pav Blossum, exhibited by Robert and Rohan Butler, Glencoe.
Intermediate champion was three-year-old in-milk cow Brookleigh Jocelyn, LF&JM Cleggett, Glencoe.
Mr Lehman commended the entry on its depth of body.
“I admire it for its head to tail cleanness of bone,” he said.
Reserve went to Brookleigh Jubilee, also from LF&JM Cleggett.
For the juvenile champion, Mr Lehman selected “clean and open” eight-month-old heifer, Kalaso Queen Bea, from Steve and Renee Joyce, Rochester, Vic.
“It was a heifer that caught my eye as it entered the ring, and it caught my eye for a reason,” he said.
“It is balanced from head to toe.”
Reserve champion went to Brookleigh Hello Iphila.
