The Brentwood stud offered 60 rams with 51 sold to $3800, averaging $1484 – a $209 lift.
Tom Honner, Roscrea, Brentwood bought the top ram for $3800, and having supported the sale for over 20 years, Mr Honner said it was fantastic to finally secure the top ram which had “exceptional staple length combined with a big body weight”.
The 104-kilogram ram sired by Y28 held a fleece with an 18.1 micron, 2.6 standard deviation, 14.5 coefficient of variation and 100 per cent comfort factor.
“He is a big proud sire, the complete package, the best Lot 1 I have ever seen on sale here so we marked him early,” he said.
Carricowie stud principal Bronte Blyth said the top ram was beautifully structured with stylish wool and he even considered keeping it himself.
Volume buyers on the day were P&M Pastoral, Port Augusta with eight rams averaging $712, JF Honner & Co, Yorketown, bought six, averaging $1183, and DJ McEvoy, Minlaton, took home seven, averaging $1685.
Loyal buyers RK, JJ, JK&AL Murdoch, Warooka, recognised the quality and bought four to a top of $3400, averaging $2150.
In the mini auction, 20 rams were offered and Karoongi Pastoral, Minlaton, bought 10 averaging $500.
The sale was conducted by Landmark with Leo Redden as auctioneer.
