Active repeat bidders helped Dalveen Poll Merino stud make a similar result to last year, a testament to the consistent quality of rams bred by the Richardson family.
The annual sale was held at Woodchester on Monday, with 112 rams sold under the hammer from 114 on offer, and a further 18 from 28 were sold in the mini auction.
Kevin Schwartz, Coonalpyn added to his ‘exceptional’ top ram from last years sale with the top ram of the day, going for $4400.
The April/May 2017-drop ram weighed 100 kilograms with a 20.1 micron, 3.2 standard deviation, coefficient of variation of 15.9 and a comfort factor of 99.4.
Stud principal John Richardson was very happy with the sale and the overall average thanks to the strong support of regular buyers.
One of the most dependable buyers, the Harvey family, Yeltrah, Woodchester Hartley, have been to every one of the 48 annual on-property sales.
Taking home four rams, Neil Harvey said they liked the size of the rams and that they are “good wool cutters” for their self replacing flock, of which a portion is then crossed with White Suffolks.
Volume buyers included Flint Brothers, Kingston, who took home 20 at an average of $2220, DP&MM Densley, Keith, bought 18 rams averaging $1539, and Mount Beevor, Harrogate, took home 10 at $2520.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark.
