OLDER ewes were in demand at the second Combined Independent Agents Association’s Crystal Brook market on Wednesday, with strong competition coming from restockers, feeders and trade buyers across the state.
Despite a little rain, the sale consisted of a good selection of well-bred sheep and lambs, with Merino ewes a particular feature.
The sale top price of $160 was yarded by Hancock Farming, Lock, for 85, September 2015-drop, Greenfields-blood ewes.
Hancock Farming also sold 48 September 2014-drop, Greenfields-bld ewes for $146.
MA North, Wudinna, sold 80, 3.5-year-old Greenfields-blds for $160, while T Freeth, Kimba, sold 72, August 2016-drop Leachim-blds for $158.
Older ewes were in popular demand with RL&GM Bawden, Tumby Bay, offering 150, Collinsville-bld, 2012/2013-drop Merinos, which sold for $152.
DJ&SJ Dolphin, Lock sold 115, Morley Blood, 5.5yo ewes for $141, while WR&PJ Brown, Lock, yarded 80 Greenfields-bld, 4.5yo ewes, which sold for $140.
In the crossbred section, RM&AG Williams, Balaklava, sold one pen of 166 April/May-drop crossbreds for $147 while their second pen of 50 sold for $127.
Also included in the sale were seven, 1.5yo, Karaken-bld Suffolk rams offered by Tandoorah Pastoral, Freeling, which sold for $640.
