NIGEL and Gina Eylward, Eylwarra Sands stud, Padthaway, had an unbelievable run in the Murray Grey judging on Saturday, exhibiting both grand champion bull and female.
Ultimately it was senior and grand champion female Eylwarra Sands Milkmaid L11 that took out the supreme exhibit title, over junior and grand champion bull Eylwarra Sands Mustang M11.
Judge Tania Guaran, Vic, said the exhibits were both outstanding and had a lot to offer the breed, but it just came down to personal preference.
“While the bull is almost faultless, the March-2015 cow is just doing such a great job with her seven-month-old calf at-foot,” she said.
“It has a beautiful, tidy udder underneath, good feet and legs, and is a structurally sound young female.”
Milkmaid was the reserve junior champion female at last year’s show,
Mustang weighed 820 kilograms at 1.5 years old, with a 115-square-centimetre eye muscle area, 7-millimetre rump fat and 6mm rib fat.
Junior champion heifer went to Bottlesford Cristy M13 from G&JR&DJ Koopman, Tungkillo, with Prairie Falls Mistique M4 from Crystal Bell, Breakaway Creek, Vic, in reserve, while reserve senior champion female went to Eylwarra Sands Petrina L22.
Reserve junior champion bull was awarded to Beeamma Masterpiece M15 from Denise Fabris, Western Flat. Beeamma also went back-to-back in the sire’s progeny group with sire Monterey Film Star.
Senior champion Murray Grey bull went to Arki Luminous L95 from G&K Buick, Western Flat.
Two-year-old Luminous weighed 740kg, and had a 119EMA, 5mm rump and 5mm rib fat.
