SA Water is still assessing the viability of a water transportation scheme for the Keith-Tailem Bend area and will continue to discuss the progression of this with the Coorong District Council.

“Any third party access transportation arrangement is subject to existing spare capacity within the SA Water network meeting demand,” a spokesperson for the mains water provider said.
A similar scheme negotiated with the Clare Region Winegrape Growers Association has contributed to growers producing high quality grapes and about a 20 per cent increase in yield for numerous grape varieties.
Livestock SA president Geoff Power says they will continue to lobby for a “meaningful reduction” in SA Water costs. Prices are holding back the expansion of livestock in areas dependent on mains, particularly the Eyre Peninsula.
“It (livestock) is a huge earner for the state and there is huge demand for our product, but we have seen a dramatic increase in water costs in the past six or seven years,” he said.
