THE Jamestown market ended the year on a high with wethers making to $107 at the saleyard’s feature wether sale.

The top price wethers were 501 May/June 2016-drop, September-shorn, Gum Hill-bloods, from Munduney Props, Spalding.
The second highest wether price was for 99 Greenfields-blds from North Benalla Props, Jamestown.
L&SL Nutt, Hawker, sold 415 wooly wethers, Glenville-bld, at $105.
Another feature of the sale was a dispersal from Neil George, Appila.
Mr George’s young ewes topped at $250 for a line of 155 Glenville-blds.
His 2.5-year-old ewes made $216 and 3.5yo ewes made $182.
Elders Jamestown’s Jack Coleman described the auction as “a belter”.
“Demand stayed strong right through the sale, with sheep just getting that bit harder to find at the moment,” he said.
Landmark Jamestown’s Shannon Jaeschke said the wether lamb and crossbred jobs were firm.
“It was a very good sale after very wet conditions across the previous 24 hours, but the sheep held up very well. There were a few more interstate buyers than we’d seen previously,” he said.
“There’s also a lot more demand at the moment, with more stubbles available.”
