Growers and carriers are responsible for declaring that what they are delivering is exactly as is printed on the ticket – the variety is accurately named, any chemicals used are declared, and the grain is free from contaminants.
Glyphosate use on barley
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority has approved a permit that allows the use of glyphosate on barley (except malting barley).
The permit is restricted to two Nufarm glyphosate products – Weedmaster DST and Weedmaster Argo.
Under the permit, only one application of glyphosate can be made to the crop and a seven-day withholding period applies until harvesting can commence.
Viterra has adapted receival standards to accommodate this change.
The use of glyphosate on malting barley is not permitted.
When delivering to a site, growers will be asked whether the barley being delivered has had any chemical applications.
If growers declare yes, the barley will be received as feed grade.
Viterra can trace all malting barley to individual loads so will be able to determine if a breach occurs.
If a carrier is used, growers can mark this as a comment on the grower delivery advice book to ensure the correct delivery grade is received.
Varietal declarations
Individual varieties of commodities are bred to perform in a specific way through the milling, malting, splitting or cooking process.
Growers are required to complete the Grower Delivery Advice book for each delivery into Viterra.
This should include all relevant information and instructions for the driver so loads are delivered as per the grower’s intentions.
Canola declarations
Growers are required to complete the Canola Sample Declaration Form for each load of canola being delivered to a Viterra site.
All information needs to be correct and complete prior to a load being delivered.
Mass management
Anyone driving a vehicle carrying grain should be aware of and comply with all Chain of Responsibility requirements, including heavy vehicle mass management.
Grain Producers SA has compiled Industry Information including the relevant legislation, codes and guidelines that affect grain producers in transporting grain and moving agricultural machinery as well as the licences and documentation required for these activities.
Viterra also has information on management of heavy vehicle mass, driver declaration of legal mass, higher mass limit permits, and management of overloaded vehicles on its website and Harvest Information Book.
