Overall 93 rams sold to $2000 and averaged $1116 – just shy of last year’s average.
The sale opened with an offering of 10 specially-selected rams. Most were bought by commercial buyers, except one – GD 15398Tw – which sold to stud breeder Haydn Lines, Keith, at the sale top price of $2000.
Mr Lines bought the ram for his newly formed, yet to be approved Benealla stud.
Breed type and balance for both phenotype and genotype were standout features, backed up with good all round Lambplan figures of 13.5 for post weaning weight, -0.8 for fat, 1.5 for eye muscle and a Carcase Plus index of 188.5.
The other nine stud rams sold from $1500 to $1800 – the 10 averaged $1730.
Three long-term Glen Devon supporters shared the $1800 equal top price for rams going to commercial use.
Steve DiGiorgio, Lucindale, was one of them, for a Derrynock 130103 son – the sire purchased in 2014 for $14,000. Mr DiGiorgio bought 12 rams to also be the biggest individual volume buyer, averaging $1233.
The Derrynock sons had very good Lambplan Australian Sheep Breeding Values and achieved good demand, especially in the last half when buyers were more selective. The 29 first progeny offered by Glen Devon averaged $1227.
The sale was conducted by Landmark Balaklava.
