Stud principals Wayne, Lindy and Matt Lehmann sold eight more rams than 2015 to a wide geographical client base stretching from the Upper North to high rainfall areas of Vic.
In the breakdown, 58 of 64 rams averaged $1681.
The highest priced rams were in the opening few lots, but there were plenty of opportunities later in the sale with 22 making $1000 or less.
Seventeen of the 18 registered bidders were successful. All were repeat buyers knowing the performance of the heavy cutting sheep with white wools.
The $6000 top price ram was a growthy 19.1-micron son of Wallaloo Park 132 – a sire bought in 2014.
The sale topper had a good balance of figures including a Dual Purpose plus index of 148.69. It was snapped up by Jeff and Ashley Burgess, Watts Range, Gulnare, who have been buying from the Lehmann family for more than 60 years.
Another Wallaloo Park 132 son was bought by Dale Paxton, Vivonne Bay, KI, at Lot 6 for $5200 – one of his six buys.
Leading the volume buyer list was Trevor and Fred Laskey, Laskey Farming, Orroroo, with eight rams averaging $2838.
Included in their tally was the $4800 third-highest price ram – a 20.5M ram weighing an impressive 120 kilograms.
Landmark auctioneer Richard Miller said there were rams for all budgets and praised the “very modern sheep” the Lehmanns were breeding with good frame, carcase and wool cut.
Elders stud stock’s Tom Penna also commended the depth for “frame, body weight and staple length”.
Wayne Lehmann said he was very happy buyers were able to secure the rams they wanted.
The stud’s use of Australian Sheep Breeding Values was giving its clients more information but also assisting its breeding program.
