The first sale a fortnight ago had 3000 lambs and this week’s had 4500.
Landmark Murray Bridge’s Kev Keller said the lambs were generally a bit lighter than the previous fortnight’s yarding.
“The lambs, surprisingly, are taking a while to come up,” he said.
“But, they generally sold very well, considering the job has come off a bit.”
Elder’s Murray Bridge branch manager Phil Nagel said there was good buying support all through the sale, and especially on trade lambs and light types.
“Lambs were generally lighter than at the last sale,” he said.
“With the dry start to the season the lambs haven’t reached the weights you would normally expect this time of year.”
Topping the market at $148 was RD Thiele, Monarto South, selling 43 lambs to Thomas Foods International.
The second highest price was $144 for 35 from CH&L Wohlfeil, Karoonda, also knocked down to TFI.
Robinville, Murray Bridge, sold 91 lambs at $142 to Austral, and Dalmarvin, Ettrick, sold 53 at $140, also to Austral. BE Launer, Ettrick, sold 98 lambs at $138, and RM&TE Hein, Burdett, sold 24 at the same price.
Batten Partners, Sherlock, sold 109 lambs for $117 to Frew, while Colrae Farms, Callington, sold 111 at $115, also to Frew.
The next Murray Bridge sale will be a wether lamb auction on Monday, September 5, with between 6000 to 8000 head expected.
The Murray Bridge off-shears ewe sale will be on Friday, September 9, and a further two prime lamb sales will be held on September 12 and September 26.
