EVEN with extra lots on offer, the Maramville Poll Merino ram sale, held at Ceduna on Wednesday last week, still managed a full clearance with a lift in the top price and average.
The sale reached a top of $2800, up from $2600 last years’ sale, with an average of $1516.

Principal Mark Hoffrichter said he was “very pleased” with the results.
“The sale rams were the best we’ve ever offered and were very even from pen one to 60, resulting in the last two pens sold making more than the first two pens offered,” he said.
“This year we put a few more up to try and cater for all buyers but were probably still 10 short.
“I guess the sale was a reflection of another good year out here and with excellent wool and meat prices buyers are prepared to pay more for their rams.”
The top price ram went to long-time supporter TI & TA Hoffrichter, Ceduna, at $2800, who bought five in total.
The ram weighed in at 112 kilograms, with a fleece of 19.4 micron, a 14.7 coefficient of variation and 99.6 per cent comfort factor.
Mark said the ram impressed with its size, structure and crimpy white nourished wool quality.
Auctioneer, Landmark stud stock’s Gordon Wood, said the sale was a success with the average “sneaking up” on 2015.
“They are some of the biggest framed sheep I sell all year and cut a power of wool,” he said.
“One of the greatest things last year and this year Mark and Amanda have enjoyed a good average which is enabling them to reinvest in the stud such as the $21,000 ram they bought from East Bungaree last year.”
Volume buyers at the sale were Ryan Trewartha, Ceduna, taking home five rams up to $2000, while Mario Nichols, Ceduna securing five rams to $1700, as did Milton Chandler, Ceduna.
Darren Shipard, Penong, and Bronte Warmington, Penong, each bought four rams to$1800, Andrew Bitmead bought four to $1600 and new buyer Trevor and Bill Oats secured four rams to $1500.
