Twenty three studs had displays at the central location, the Keith Showgrounds and Moorundie Keith and Andoma, Mundulla threw open their gates. Major sponsor Elders also organised a larger presence of commercial trade exhibitors than previous years.
SE Merino Breeders president Mark Vandeleur said the attendance was up on last year and was pleased to see a strong local contingent as well as interested buyers from the Mallee and Victoria. He said the forecast of a better season and strong sheep and wool prices was buoying interest.
“Those guys in Merinos are getting the results and people know that ewes are going to get dearer if we have a normal season so are deciding to breed some,”he said.
Mr Vandeleur said the quality of the sheep was a credit to the breeders.
“There were some exceptional quality wools throughout the shed.”
