There were 190 entrants, aged eight to 23, along with their heifers and steers.
Matilda is at her second expo for the chance to learn more about cows, their care, and the entire beef industry.
Helping her learn is ‘buddy’ Emily Pitchford, Echunga. For Ms Pitchford, the atmosphere and chance to work with cattle has kept her coming back for the past decade.
She has served as buddy helping younger students for three years, and said it was great to catch up with her previous buddies to see how they had progressed in the industry.
Committee coordinator Justine Fogden said the event was a mix of practice and education.
“It’s a chance for kids to meet others with like-minded ideas and catch up,” she said. “There are kids from throughout SA and they usually only get to catch up here and at the Adelaide Show.”
