The state performed better than the national average, where total exports fell 4.2 per cent in the same period.
SA’s export of growth was 0.7pc on last year, and included copper gaining $272m, wine $136m, fruit and vegetables to $80m and lead $53m.
Investment and Trade Minister Martin Hamilton-Smith said the figures showed strong demand continues for local products.
“These figures follow the latest economic briefing report by the SA Centre for Economic Studies, which shows that prices for the state’s overseas exports of goods and services in the March 2016 quarter were 10 pc lower compared to a year earlier in trend terms,” he said.
The report showed rises in exports of goods up $443m and services up $151m.
Mr Hamilton-Smith said the state’s performance had shown an improvement and the continuing growth in trade and exports would lead to a strong economy.
“The state’s strong performance in areas that we can influence is helping offset the global impact of a reduction in iron ore exports to China,” he said.
