RAA Senior Analyst Chris West said Port Augusta was the big mover in this month’s ratings, jumping from tenth to first place.
“Port Augusta jumped into top spot, Broken Hill just held on to second place, while Loxton fell from first place last month to sixth overall,” he said.
“Overall, regional fuel prices have improved as retailers did not pass on the rising wholesale prices in late May, and many towns have seen the mid-June wholesale price reduction flow through to the petrol pump.”
The combination of falling oil prices and refinery margins, as well as a strengthening Australian dollar will cause a further reduction this month, if retailers are to pass it on.
“If the trend continues, petrol and LPG users are likely to be the biggest winners with at least a 4 cents per litre reduction expected,” he said.
Mr West said it was disappointing that Whyalla was rated as poor, when the best LPG prices were close by in Port Augusta and much of the state’s LPG is sourced from Port Bonython.
