STUDENTS across SA are getting in touch with the cute end of the dairy industry as they raise calves.
Cows Create Careers is on again in 2016, with dairy industry stakeholders working with schools to deliver two calves, to give an insight into the sector to participating classes.
Dairy Australia industry capability program manager Tracy Lloyd said the program built awareness of the diverse range of professional careers in the dairy industry.
At Tyndale Christian College, Murray Bridge, the Year 6 class spent three weeks with Illawarra calves Cocoa and Buttercup from the Glenbrook stud.
Physical education teacher Tim Howard said the highly-engaging program provided a great opportunity for the students to learn about the dairy industry, “especially for those who are not familiar with farming”.
“The practical responsibility of tending to the calves was a huge learning opportunity rather than just learning from researching in the classroom,” he said.
