EUDUNDA farmer Ron Bellchambers was the winner of the major award at the Angaston Hogget Competition on Thursday, March 31 - the hogget of the day.

Mr Bellchambers has been taking part in the Angaston Hogget Competition for more than a decade.
While he had won the hogget of the day award in the past, this year was the first time he won both the hogget of the year prize and the number one position for the pen of three in the open section.
Mr Bellchambers has been following the advice of WA-based wool classer Graham Holton for the past 15 years and he said his advice helped him to get the most out of his sheep.
His hogget of the day winner was a May/June-drop.
The fleece of the hogget – measuring at the head – was 18.6 microns, standard deviation of 3, co-efficient of variation of 16.1 and comfort factor of 99.7 per cent.
There were a record number of entries for the competition at 31.
Judge David Hill, Old Kelvale, Burra, said the overall quality of the sheep entered was very good.
“The line-up is a credit to the producers,” he said.
Mr Hill said the hogget of the day had a lot of qualities to like.
“She’s a big, bulky ewe, with real long stapled wool, and very white wool on her,” he said.
Trevor McLean, Milang, won the later lambing section’s hogget of the day.
His June-drop had 18.8M, 2.8 SD, 14.9CV and 99.8pc CF fleece.
“This is a big upstanding sheep, with a long staple,” Mr Hill said.
“She’s a long ewe, with bright, white wool.”
Neil Neumann, Angaston, and his daughter Sam, won the hogget of the day in the Angaston Agricultural Bureau section.
Their winning April/May-drop, which was August shorn, had 19.4M, 3.4 SD, 17.6 CV and 99pc CF fleece.
