Program Leader for the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources Glenn Shimmin said the SA Riverland Floodplains Integrated Infrastructure Program will improve the watering and management of the river’s floodplains.
“The program aims to simulate the natural flooding events that help to return key wetlands and associated floodplain woodlands to a healthy state,” Dr Shimmin said.
The community will see construction begin later this month at Bank J at the mouth of Eckert’s Creek on the Katarapko floodplain, and on the Margaret Dowling Creek in Bert Dix Park at Paringa.
Dr Shimmin said DEWNR project teams will have information desks on Wednesday April 6 at the Berri Resort Hotel and the Renmark Hotel on Thursday April 7, from 4-6pm, to talk to members of the public about the program.
“We will have information desks set up on the river banks in Berri and Renmark so the community can hear first-hand how this project might affect them, temporary changes they should expect and how the improvements will help return wetlands and floodplains to good health,” Dr Shimmin said.
