THE high prices achieved at the Mount Pleasant annual beef breeders and weaners cattle sale in early March highlighted the huge jump on returns for beef cattle compared to the same time last year.

The 2015 sale achieved prices well up on the previous year, but they jumped again significantly at the recent sale.
Landmark’s David Schulz said it was a strong sale across the board.

For the fourth year in a row the pregnancy tested in calf heifer section was topped by Heather Guthrie, Mymore, Tungkillo. Last year she received $1070 as the highest price. This year she sold seven Red Angus heifers, PTIC to a Limousin bull, to a whopping $1640.
She also made the second highest price, selling four Angus heifers, PTIC to a Limousin bull, for $1600.
At last year’s sale cows with calves at foot made to $1240. This year they made to $1800 twice.
D Hold Enterprises, Mount Pleasant, sold one Poll Hereford cow with CAF at $1800.
SP Holt, Eden Valley, also sold a Poll Hereford cow with CAF for $1800.
TAR&K Brown, Keyneton, sold one Murray Grey cow, PTIC, with CAF for $1780.
R&E Ball, Littlehampton, sold two Murray Grey cows with CAF for $1720.
High Eden, Springton, sold four Murray Grey cows, PTIC, for $1400.
Clifton Vineyards, Angaston, sold 12 Murray Grey cows, PTIC to a Murray Grey bull and due to calve in April, for $1380. MG&LF Seelander, Angaston, sold one Murray Grey cow, PTIC to a Murray Grey bull, for $1320.
Unjoined heifers made to $1440 for two Angus-crosses from TAR&K Brown.
HJ&SL Wendt, Greenock, sold three Red Angus unjoined heifers for $1130.
D Conradi, Tailem Bend, made $940 for two Angus heifers.
Carlton Investments, Hahndorf, sold nine Shorthorn unjoined heifers at $900.
Last year steers made to $970 and this year they went to $1500. RA Wenske, Nildottie, sold one Murray Grey steer at the top price.
Andemar Pty Ltd, Mount Pleasant, sold four Murray Grey steers for $1300.
Bulls made to $2400 for a Murray Grey from VK&MA Mueller, Cromer.
K Barker, Gawler, sold one Murray Grey bull at $2120.
Buying support came from a wide area including the Riverland, Mid North and Adelaide Hills, as well as Princess Royal, Thomas Foods International and Austral.
