BIDDING support from five states helped underpin the Vogt family’s Power in the Pedigree bull and female sale at their Maryvale Limousin stud at Kapunda on Tuesday, February 23.

Buyers came from Qld, NSW, WA, Vic and across SA.
There were 17 bulls sold out of 20 for an average of $4283, which was $133 up on last year.
The top of $6000 was achieved twice.
One top price bull went to valued client Grant Blackwell, Milang.
Maryvale Kodiak K458 is a hetero polled 18-month-old weighing 686 kilograms. He was sired by TMF Westwood 505W.
Mr Blackwell has been buying from Maryvale for the past few years.
He said the top price bull had all the attributes he was after in a sire, particularly easy of calving.
Mr Blackwell runs a beef and cropping enterprise at Milang with more than 100 F1 cows with Limousin bulls put over them and 90 per cent of his cattle are sold through Mount Compass.
The other top price bull went to Barry and Cathie Burgess, Nambeelup, WA.
The couple were first-time buyers at Maryvale and run their own Limousin stud Willendaise Park.
Mr Burgess said he was looking for softness, temperament and calving ease when buying bulls.
“The bull we bought had all the traits we require, he fitted our bill perfectly,” he said.
Maryvale Kaladbro K457 is a hetero polled 18-month-old weighing 726kg. His EBVs ranked in the top 10 per cent for docility and gestation length. He was also sired by TMF Westwood 505W.
Qld buyers Greg and Denise Geysing, Wondai, bought one bull at $4000 – Maryvale Kings Canyon K466.
It was the second bull they have bought from the stud.
“We were very happy with the first bull we bought,” Mrs Geysing said.
Volume buyer on the bulls was return client Peter O’Neil, Parawa. Mr O’Neil bought five bulls to $4250.
Females were also offered, with nine out of 11 sold for a top of $8500 and $5166 av.
WA stud principals James and Casey Morris, Morrisvale Limousin, Donnybrook, bought a black polled cow and calf for $6500.
“We bought a bull from Maryvale four years ago, and a heifer,” Mr Morris said.
“Since then we’ve bought five cows.
“They have similar country to ours at home.
“The cattle also have good doing-ability and temperament.”
Mick Hearnden, Hearnden Farms, Eden Valley, bought three cows and calves to $4500.
There was also one semen lot sold for $4000.
The Vogt family were celebrating 30 years of breeding at this year’s sale.
Barry Vogt said he was pleased with the average achieved on the bulls and he thought the females sold exceptionally well.
“Our point of difference is that we produce softer cattle that still meets the Australian conditions,” he said.
“We have our herd in a very good place in terms of docility as well.
“We try and achieve balanced estimated breeding values as much as we can.”
Landmark conducted the sale with Richard Miller auctioneering.
“There was a terrific offering of modern, dual-purpose Limousin bulls that would suit a variety of markets,” Mr Miller said.
“The quality and type was very consistent and there was extremely good value-buying.”
