THE NSW Government have committed up to $500 million to “secure Broken Hill’s water supply for decades to come”, but local residents still feel they are being left in the dark about the future of the region and are taking their concerns to Canberra.

A protest group, formed by Menindee resident and former Broken Hill mayor Ron Page and Aboriginal Lands Council western chair William Murray, Wilcannia, plan to bus Far West NSW residents to parliament house in April.
They will have signed petitions that support resolutions to fix the Menindee Lakes and Darling River system below Bourke, NSW.
“We have been starved of water and it has forced people to move away from their local communities along the river from Bourke to Wentworth,” Mr Page said. “The present system is not acceptable. We need a system that is balanced for all, which is not the case at the moment.”
The group plans to meet with different senators and political parties to raise awareness on the Far West water crisis.
