The average jumped to $1371 from last year’s $883.96 and the top price of $2150 was a 56pc increase on last year’s top of $1380.
J&J Kelly principal Jack Kelly said the excellent prices showed the strength of the vealer market as well as the vigour of the cow market.
Mr Kelly said the yarding of 683 was down on previous years, reflecting the tough phase the vealer industry had been through.
He said vealers were making good money and buyers who secured cows would also be happy because there were not many about.
Joined heifers offered were due to calve from January to March.
Charolais-cross heifers again attracted the best price with Gorae Farms, Gorae West, via Portland, Vic, securing the top price of $2150 for 10 Charolais-Friesian springing heifers. Mr Kelly said prices for Angus-Friesians were “consistent”.
