Stud principal Perry Gunner opened the new complex – and the sale – true to his wine industry roots by christening the sale ring with a bottle of Jacob's Creek champagne.
Steady bidding from start to finish cleared 36 of the 44 July-drop bulls offered, averaging $3264 to buyers throughout the state.
Coorong Galaxy G68 was the sale-topper at $6000. With a $134 CAAB $Index, top 1 per cent, and +116kg for 600-day weight, top 5pc, the Te Mania Berkley B1 son went to Swan Brothers, Meningie. Taking an additional three bulls throughout the sale for their 200-head commercial cow calf operation, Craig Swan said he admired the "growth and carcase traits of the bulls".
Volume buyer Hillcrest Pastoral Company, Lucindale, put together a group of six bulls.
Paying to $3750, the Hillcrest team was able to secure their bulls at a bargain $2875 average.
