The sons of the $25,000 top priced bull from Sprys stud's 2011 on-property sale at Wagga Wagga rose through the pre-sale judging on Tuesday to win reserve champion in Division 2 and 3 for the Bayview stud.
"Dad saw him and was impressed by him as a calf but Gerald (Spry) wanted to keep him for his sale so we bought some semen instead," stud principal Chris Thompson said.
"These are the oldest calves we have by him - they are the right type of cattle for the industry now, with enough fat cover, muscling, and good industry type."
Division 2 reserve champion Bayview Majestic G71, stood second to the grand champion bull, Moombi Ooktali G55, exhibited by Lester and Sonya Job, Cumnock, New South Wales.
Ooktali remained in the winner's circle after being supreme champion Shorthorn exhibit at the Sydney Royal Show earlier in the year.
It outclassed 136 other entries at the National, appealing to judge Peter Falls, Malton Shorthorns, Finley, for its volume, sire appeal, and market versatility.
"With the combination of structure, weight, shape and sire appeal, he had all the boxes ticked," he said.
Bayview Prodigy G25 was Division 3 reserve champion.
It was the first time in many years a South Australian exhibitor had not won at least one of the division champions but the four SA studs were around the mark all day.
Andy and Sally Withers, Belmore stud, Naracoorte, won two blue ribbons including their class-eight winner Belmore Quotation G114, which had the second highest eye muscle area in the shed at a massive 143 square centimetres at just under two years of age.
SA studs did well in the prestigious Lambell MacKinnon Trophy for the group-of-three bulls, with Bayview placing second and Belmore third.
