THE Royal Adelaide Show may be over but Mulloorie's success continued at their annual on-property Merino and Poll Merino auction at Brinkworth last Monday, with 67 rams averaging an excellent $1726.
Peter and Julie Meyer, along with sons Brett and Paul and their families, were awarded the sash for most successful Merino and Poll Merino exhibitors at the Royal, also winning grand champion August-shorn Poll Merino ewe and several breeders group trophies.
They offered a cracking line-up of hefty rams with bulky, white fleeces, which sold to buyers from across the State, Victoria and NSW at the on-property sale.
Merinos topped the sale at $6000 with David Rees, Gunneramby Merino and Poll Merino Stud, Bellevue, via Ivanhoe, NSW, purchasing the top ram.
Mr Rees, who has bought Mulloorie rams for the past eight years, said the 15-month-old sire was a nice, plain, easy-care sheep.
Weighing 123.5 kilograms, the ram was sired by an EH family ram and had excellent wool measurement figures of 18.5 micron, 3.5 standard deviation, 17.2 coefficient of variation and 100 per cent comfort factor.
Poll Merino rams sold to $5800, with Dean Schlink, Sapphire Pastoral, Poochera, buying the top ram.
