THE contentious issue of GM crops will be put under the spotlight at the Lucerne Australia 2013 GM Symposium at Keith today.
One of the speakers is Alpha Group Consulting's James De Barro. He will talk about insect management in the cotton industry before the introduction of BT/Bollgard cotton, explain BT cotton, make comparisons with the lucerne seed industry, and discuss opportunities BT lucerne presents.
Other speakers include US speakers Forage Genetics International proprietor Bill Knipe, Geertson Seed Farms proprietor Phillip Gerrtson and Roundup Ready lucerne grower Mark Wagoner who will discuss the GM technology currently available, markets that accept GM lucerne, and GM contamination.
Other speakers include Dairy Futures CRC CEO David Nation, who will discuss consumer feedback about GM pastures/fodder for milk production; Australian Soil Planners managing partner Martin Hockey, who will cover the practical impacts of repeated glyphosate applications on soil health and functionality; and University of Adelaide's Christopher Preston, who will cover the risks and opportunities with Roundup for the pasture-seed industry.
