MALLALA graingrower Richard Konzag completed harvest just in time to avoid Tuesday's rain, finishing a crop of faba beans less than 24 hours before the storm front passed through.

With about 75 per cent of farmers in the district having completed harvest, Richard said yields were strong, despite falling short of earlier expectations.
"We had 40 millimetres when the wheat was flowering, and normally you'd think that would get us over the line well and truly, but I think the wind took its toll," he said.
"We had a really windy period of four weeks through September and the start of October. I think that dried things out a lot more than we expected.
"Initially, I guess people might have been a bit disappointed, but then they realised they were still getting really good yields."
Richard said wheat yielded above 4 tonnes a hectare, with Mace the standout.
"Mace quality has been excellent, but a lot of people have had trouble with screenings in Durum," he said.
