Regional Development Minister Geoff Brock said the SA Government committed $1.5 million in funding last year towards the project pending the outcome of the District Council of Ceduna’s federal funding grant application.
“It’s pleasing to see the Federal Government come on board to support this important regional project which will mean improved berth access and offloading efficiencies for non-bulk carrier vessels,” he said.
“I inspected the Thevenard site and was briefed on the project during Country Cabinet on the West Coast in November last year.
“This project is a great example of the three tiers of government coming together with the private sector to develop a new and much-needed multi-purpose berthing and mooring offloading facility for the EP.
“The project will alleviate the need for non-bulk carrier vessels to use the Port Thevenard facilities, instead using the new development to ensure safer manual handling and more efficient uploading and loading.
“Importantly, it will support the viability of the fishing industry in the region meaning jobs will remain in Ceduna and Thevenard, which will have flow-on economic and social benefits throughout the community and across other industries.”
