FLEURIEU dairyfarmer Michael Connor has taken the reins as chairman of DairySA.
Mr Connor, Mount Compass, entered the new role at the annual general meeting in late October.
He takes over from South East dairyfarmer James Mann, who had been chairman since 2002.
After working closely with Mr Mann for a number of years as vice chairman, Mr Connor said he expected DairySA to continue on a similar path.
He said his interest was in communicating with the different dairy regions of SA.
"I want to keep the focus on regional issues, keep regional feedback to DairySA and just keep those things going," Mr Connor said.
Another key goal would be to bring national programs, where relevant, to local areas.
Mr Connor said he originally the board because he considered it a way to make a difference on-farm.
He said many of DairySA's focus areas, including research, business skills and biosecurity, were important to the running of a farm.
"It's a matter of supporting the team that's already doing good work," Mr Connor said.
DairySA chief executive Verity Ingham welcomed Mr Connor to the role and said his strength in networking, people, training and education were a positive for the board.
Ms Ingham also praised Mr Mann for his contributions.
"He certainly left a strong legacy in a more diverse organisation," she said.
"The very strong, strategic, leadership of the board has allowed us to be able to diversify into different areas and engage with more farmers."
Mr Mann is nominated for a place on the Dairy Australia board, with the vote to take place at the AGM on November 27.
His vacancy had opened a space on the DairySA board, filled by Burrungule dairyfarmer Ian Freebairn.
Ms Ingham said Mr Freebairn brought a "broad expertise" to the table with his background in consultancy.
The new vice chairman is Glenn Dohnt, Monteith.
