The next day Stock Journal caught up with the changeover crew from southern Yorke Peninsula taking a break at Port Wakefield.
The crew, consisting of firefighters from Minlaton, Port Vincent, Yorketown and Warooka brigades, fought the fire from Mallala about 8pm on Wednesday night and pushed through a 12-hour shift, ending at Nuriootpa at 8.30am on Thursday.
CFS state coordinator Yvette Dowling commended the work of the volunteers and farm fire units involved in the incident.
"Hundreds of volunteers attended this fire and many more were active in support roles and their work as always was exemplary," she said.
