PIRSA director Dan Casement said the majority of damaged crops were durum and bread wheats.
He said the loss of about 33,000 tonnes of hay would impact the hay exporting industry and put pressure on producers to feed stock.
“While the fire has destroyed a significant tonnage of grain and hay in the Lower North district, the 59,000t lost will only marginally impact on the state’s total crop estimate of 7.1mt released in the latest PIRSA crop and pasture report last month,” he said.
In addition to the hay and crop losses, the fire destroyed 87 homes and burnt more than 82,000ha of land.
