THE inaugural North East pastoral Merino lamb sale held at Yunta on Thursday last week was the brainchild of Elders Peterborough branch manager Tim Taplin.

Vendors were happy with the results of the sale, particularly as it gave buyers the chance to compare pastoral sheep to other similar types, rather than stock from the inside country.
“I was very happy with how the sale went,” Mr Taplin said. “The sheep presented very well. They were a credit to the vendors.”
Mr Taplin is keen for the sale to become an annual event.
“We’ll definitely look at doing something again next year,” he said. “I’d love to see it become an on-going feature. It’d be great to see the same buyers come back.”
Mr Taplin said the sale was also a great chance to take advantage of a generally favourable season has been favourable this year, and north east sheep are known for their doing-ability
One of the vendors at the sale Chris Macdonald, East Whydown, Yunta. Mr Macdonald has been at the property for the past 20 years, after moving over to SA after working in the travel industry in Sydney, NSW.
“This the second decent season we’ve had in 20 years here,” he said.
“Last year we had significant rains in April and May, and this year is was in April and June.
“We’re just starting to get the point now where we’re looking for rain again. But, I’d still say it’s the best conditions we’ve had in 20 years.”
