Chief Inspector Alex Zimmerman, in charges of the Barossa Local Service Area, called the theft from people who had already suffered so much “totally unacceptable”.
"Police are as appalled as the community by this behaviour, and I urge anyone with any information about these matters to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," he said.
There have been six reports which include a mini bike, jewellery, tools and a generator, a fire fighting pump, mig welder and generator, cash and fuel.
The thefts have occurred in Wasleys, Freeling, Roseworthy, She Oak Log and Koonunga.
Chief Inspector Zimmermann said three incidents involved property owners who had been evacuated, while the firefighting pump at Roseworthy and cash at Shea Oak Log thefts involved people who were out fighting fires and the fuel theft at Koonunga occurred in a paddock next to the fires.
"Police have increased patrols in the area, however it is important that the local community assist by providing their eyes and ears,” he said.
"Any suspicious behaviour – or vehicles - should be reported to police immediately by calling 131 444."
Police also ask that members of the public make note of any vehicle registrations or descriptions that they may have concerns about.
