SHEEP and lamb numbers jumped on AuctionsPlus last week by 12,000, to total 61,948 head with strong numbers out of the south.

Lambs again dominated, with strong buyer support resulting in excellent clearance rates.
Store lamb numbers showed little movement on last week, with variation of a couple of dollars up or down within weight brackets.
The top price lambs of the week were 560 shorn second cross Suffolk and White Suffolk lambs from Kangaroo Island, weighing 39 kilograms, which sold to $108.50.
Merino wether lamb prices eased slightly, to average $67, down $2 on the previous week, ranging from $32.50 to a top of $83.
Hoggets sold from $55 to $88.50 and older wethers sold to $115.50.
Young Merino ewes sold from $67 to a top of $125.50, for Tameleuca-blood hoggets out of Broken Hill, NSW.
Proven breeders made $81 to $112 and aged ewes sold from $65 to $112.50.
First cross ewes were sought after, with lambs selling for $165.50, maidens to a top of $211 and proven breeders selling from $113 to $181.
Cattle numbers increased even more significantly to 8903 head, up 2400.
There were smaller numbers of PTIC females and young cows sold for $1130 to a $1650.
Young cattle prices were relatively static with only the lighter end of heifers experiencing any significant change.
