Gun Aussie shearers Shannon Warnest, Willalooka and John Dalla, Warooka beat Rick Chilcott, Lucindale and Imran Sullivan, Kangaroo Island – who were representing NZ – by eight seconds in a three-part exhibition shearing test.
Sports Shear Australia Association chairman Steph Brooker-Jones said it was a thrill to be invited by the SA Cricket Association to entertain their members, and showcase machine and blade shearing. Mrs Brooker-Jones said the demonstration, supported by Australian Wool Innovation, is another step towards having competitive shearing recognised as a sport.
“The rivalry is just as strong in shearing as it is in cricket, rugby or netball,” she said.
