EWE lambs sold to $203 at SA’s biggest feature on-property sale of its type at Cooranga, Lucindale, on Friday November 27.

It was the James’ family’s 24th annual on-property sale, with 7041 first-cross ewe lambs, 151 pure Border Leicester ewe lambs and 6244 wether lambs sold.
Prices for the ewe lambs ranged from $143 to $203.
The opening pen made the top price of $203, for a line of 195 ewe lambs that were knocked down to O’Connor & Graney Mount Gambier.
The top price was $31 up on last year’s highest return of $172.
The second highest price was $186 for a line of 195 that went to Elders Lucindale, account Watson.
Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen Kingston’s Peter Dunn was one of the volume buyers on the ewe lambs, buying for a range of clients, including Ivan and Pauline Hocking, Furner, who took 440 to a top of $182.
Other buyers on the ewe lambs included Landmark Timboon, Vic, PPH&S Penola, Chay & Merrett Millicent, Ray White Mount Gambier, Landmark Millicent, Elders Millicent and Thomas Degaris and Clarkson Penola.
The top price on the pure Border Leicester ewe lambs was $84 for 87, going to Elders Lucindale.
Another line of pure Border Leicester ewe lambs 64 went for $68 to PPH&S.
Looking at the wether lambs, JBS paid the highest price of $138 for a line of 1565, with an average weight of 59 kilograms, equating to $2.33/kg.
Thomas Foods International paid the second highest price for the wethers at $117.50, for a line of 1113, average weight 52.5kg, equating to $2.23/kg.
The remainder of the wether lambs made from $86 to $112.
The James family said they were very happy with how the sale went, especially with the top being more than $30 up on last year.
