Learning how to take the ‘scary’ out of change will be among the topics for SA’s dairyfarmers at the DairySA Central Conference in Hahndorf next month.
Organisers of the DairySA Central Conference expect up to 150 dairyfarmers and service providers from across SA’s Central dairying region – including the Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu and Barossa – will attend to hear the insights from a range of ‘change-makers’- whether it be through technology, recruitment or facilitating change in the family farm setting.
Conference co-ordinator DairySA’s Beck Burgess said the conference has been designed to challenge dairyfarmers’ thinking by exploring the potential of change in their business.
“In today’s complex and challenging business environment, it takes professional, switched on and adaptable people to manage and thrive in the world of dairy farming,” Ms Burgess said.
“This year’s DairySA Central Conference – ‘Change: Explore the Potential’ – will deliver delegates the tools, ideas, resources and connections to help manage this change, while adding value to dairy farm businesses.”
Presenter Jacob Thomas, Availer technology leader, will take delegates on the journey of how farmers can use data-points to monitor and manage cows to maximise milk quality, farmer-paid pricing, and optimise animal welfare and nutrition.
Recruitment will also be key – with tips on how to attract and retain good staff.
“The DairySA Central Conference is the result of a collaborative approach between DairySA and Central region South Australian dairyfarmers,” Ms Burgess said.
“The traditional landscape is changing for today’s dairy farm business and our carefully chosen speakers will provide an insight into some of the significant changes occurring in the dairy industry – be it technology, recruitment or managing family businesses.
“Excitingly, SA is punching well above its weight with advancements in dairy technology, such as the SA based initiative ‘Dairy Explorer Project’.
“This is an excellent opportunity to showcase what’s happening right here in SA and hear from a range of high calibre speakers from all facets of our industry.”
The DairySA Central Conference will be held on Thursday, March 8 from 9.30am at the Adelaide Hills Convention Centre, Hahndorf.
