International investment in Australian dairy will be a key theme for this year’s Australian Dairy Conference 2018, held in Melbourne next month.
Among the issues with be ways to identify aspects important to investment, better decision making and preparing the farm to make it investor-ready.
Saputo Inc chair and chief executive Lino A Saputo Jnr, owner of Warrnambool Cheese and Butter and buyer of Murray Goulburn, will headline a session on why he deems Australia an attractive proposition for investment on the back of investment into the Australian sector, and the opportunities he sees for the industry.
ADC programming chair Scott Fitzgerald said many Australian dairyfarmers face an uncertain future and the focus was to shed light on how outsiders view our industry given significant interest in the industry from Canada, China and beyond.
“As an industry, dairy farmers are quite critical of ourselves as we continue to strive for better practices, methods and growth,” he said.
“To gain an external view of the industry and our environment is significant to appreciate what we are in fact getting right and recognise the incredible assets we have at our disposal.
“Lino A Saputo Jr will provide an overview of the reasons he feels Australian dairy is the right fit for his company while Colin Armer from Armer Farms, New Zealand, shares why dairy was the right choice via his evolution from zero to 13,000 cows.”
Mr Fitzgerald said the organisers aimed to provide a global overview, as well as some tangible outcomes that farmers can apply back in their business to improve productivity and future planning.
“Whatever your level of involvement in the dairy industry there are key learnings as to why dairy is the industry of choice and applications to advance your dairy business,” Mr Fitzgerald said.
“For farm employees this will include what investors are looking for in their workforce when considering an opportunity and what pathways exist for the right people to succeed in organisations.”
The ADC 2018 will be held February 13 to 15 at the Pullman Albert Park, Melbourne.
