PRICES were exceptionally strong at the Jamestown feature wether market on Thursday, December 14, with wethers selling to $133 and plenty of lines making more than $100.
Landmark Jamestown agent Shannon Jaeschke said the sale result reflected the confidence in the industry.
“Most people I spoke to said it was one of the dearest store sales they’d ever seen,” he said.
Elders Jamestown territory sales manager Scott Fleetwood said it was good end to the selling season.
“There was plenty of restocker demand on the back of hooks prices being so solid,” he said.
“While a lot of sheep went locally, there was also good bidding from interstate and the south as well.”
Making the highest price for wethers was Bennett Farm Trust, Tarcowie, selling 277 Lines Gum Hill-bloods for $133 to Hill Livestock.
The second highest price for wethers was $130 for 360 North Ashrose-blds from Hale Partners, Hallett, which were knocked down to Landmark Murray Bridge.
Both making $127 for their wethers were JL Quinn & Son, Hallett, with 152 Gum Hill-blds sold to Princess Royal, and GC&LK Moore, Caltowie, with 171 Ulooloo-blds, also sold to Princess Royal.
Wartaka Pastoral Co, via Port Augusta, sold 370 East Bungaree-bld wethers to Hill Livestock for $126.
Selling wethers for $124 were Tohl Bros, Booborowie, with 451 Mulloorie-blds sold to Princess Royal, Glenrest Trading Trust, Mannanarie, with 100 Hamilton Run-blds sold to Princess Royal and Yorkvale Props, Kapunda, with 155 Nyowee-blds sold to Hill Livestock.
GM&JF O’Brien, Wudinna, sold 205 Dohne wethers at $118 and 283 Merino wethers at $111.
Topping the older, 2015-drop wethers was Moonaree Station, via Port Augusta, with 60 East Bungaree-blds at $123, along with a further 387 at $122. The same vendor also sold 605, 2016-drop East Bungaree-bld wethers at $119.
Making the highest price for crossbred lambs was TR,LP&RJ Ellis, Jamestown, with 361 Wheetelande-blds sold to Hill Livestock for $133.
Selling their crossbreds for $126 were RH,MH&HL McCallum, Booleroo Centre, with 192 Willochra/Gumview-blds sold to Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen Pinnaroo and Gowan Brae, Melrose, with 560 lambs.
LK Duffy & Co, Orroroo, sold 228 crossbreds at $124.
There was only a limited number of young ewes yarded, with the top price $198 for 181 Moorundie Park-blds from GR Coleman, Jamestown, sold to Landmark Balakalava.
Making the highest price for 2.5-year-old ewes was Arura Ag, Wudinna, with 139 Nantoura-blds sold for $202 to Elders Mount Pleasant.
Phillip R Proctor, Lock, had 193, 3.5-4.5yo F1 SAMM ewes, Hillridge-bld, sell for $166.
Chowilla, Renmark, sold 207, 4.5yo ewes for $130 to Quality Livestock Burra.
Making the top price for 5.5yo ewes was MA Kelly Pty Ltd, Jamestown, with 138 Hamilton Run-blds at $172, sold to Landmark Kadina.
Wirryilka Pastoral, Broken Hill, sold more than 2000 older ewes, topping at $146 for 548, 5.5yo North Cowie-blds, and a further 274 sold at $145.
