PEOPLE from across the state are taking to horseback to help support an Upper North charity event.
The Stockyard Arena Association is holding a bronco branding and team penning event on November 4 and 5, at Quorn, with all profits to support people impacted by ill health.
SSA president Rachel Fraser said the event began two years ago to support local Wesley Murray, who had been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
She said it was such a success they were able to also donate $5000 to the Cancer Council. They kept it going last year, supporting an ovarian cancer charity.
This year they had already decided to support children’s charity Make a Wish, when they heard about the plight of Felicity Plew, a 32-year-old mother of five who has links to Quorn and was diagnosed with Glioblastoma – brain cancer. Event proceeds will be shared between those two causes.
Ms Fraser said the SSA held a number of events throughout this year, with this dedicated charity event attracting competitors from Alice Springs, NT, along the Birdsville Track, northern NSW and the South East.
She said the community also got behind them with a number of local businesses generously donating prizes for an auction on the Saturday night.
The event is held at the Quorn stockyard arena, with bronco branding from 8am on the Saturday and the popular team penning on Sunday.
