AN even lineup of composite and White Suffolk rams were offered at the annual Bark Hut ram sale on Kangaroo Island recently.
Andrew and Bec Bennett, Parndana, offered 70 composite and 37 White Suffolk rams and attracted a larger crowd to their Stony Creek property than last year’s sale.
The 70 composite rams sold in a total clearance, reaching a top of $2400 and averaging $1230.
The top ram sold to KI buyers GA&JA Buick and NRG Campbell.
It had an eye muscle width of 85 millimetres, eye muscle depth of 42mm and index of 1090.
The White Suffolks sold to a top price of $1600, averaging $970, with 33 rams sold out of 37 offered.
The overall average price rose $265 from last year’s $882 to $1147.
KI bidders JM Boyle and DJ Willmott bought the top ram, which had figures of 87EMW, 41EMD and index of 1126.
The Bennetts said they were pleased with the sale result and the bidding reflected the calibre of the rams on offer.
The sale was conducted by Elders and Landmark.
Elders stud stock auctioneer Tony Wetherall said the Bennetts had done a great job on the presentation of their rams in a tough year for the area.
