COMPETITION was not as hot as last year at the Pinnaroo off-shears sale on Friday, with young ewes making to $236, compared to 2016’s $268 high.
Landmark Loxton branch manager Curly Golding said good runs of young ewes still sold fairly well, but prices were back a bit on the recent Murray Bridge off-shears sale, which kicked off the season.
“There was certainly plenty of competition on 4.5-year-old and 5.5yo ewes, and they sold very well,” he said.
Elders Pinnaroo livestock agent David Daniel said there was good competition from the South East and Ouyen, Vic, areas, as well as strong local support.
Two pens topped the sale at $236.
MG&JL Allan, Murrayville, Vic, sold a complete drop of 334 Lines Gum Hill-blood young ewes for the top price to Rodwells Keith.
Pinnaroo vendors WG&KJ Venning also topped the sale with 116 Moorundie Park-bld young ewes at $236, selling to Landmark Loxton.
Making $224 for its 1.5yo ewes was Jasbren Ace, Murrayville, with 124 Moorundie Park-blds that sold to Pinkerton Palm Hamlyn & Steen, Naracoorte, and DA&LC Crane, Murrayville, with 135 Lines Gum Hill-blds sold to Elders Millicent.
PD&DF Colwill, Parilla, made $222 for 162 Glenlea-Park-blds. Both making $220 were the Schroeder family, Gunallo, Pinnaroo, with 193 selling to McPiggery, Lameroo, and Glenlea Park, Pinnaroo, with 122 selling to Elders Ouyen.
DL&JF Dutschke, Karoonda, had 130 Kamora Park/Greenfields-blds make $216.
AK Schulz, Karoonda, sold 221 Kamora Netley Park-blds for $210, while MB,KJ&JB Heinicke, Pinnaroo, sold 173 Hamilton Run-blds for the same price. PJ Gilbertson, Parilla, had 91 Glenlea Park-blds make $206.
McPiggery had a flock reduction of Ridgway/Gunallo/Glenlea Park-blds, selling 160, 2.5-3.5yo ewes for $150 and 127, 4.5-5.5yo ewes for $161.
There was only one pen of ewe lambs offered, from Highgate Farms, Pinnaroo, with 108 Glenlea Park/Gunallo-blds making $148 to Elders Murray Bridge.
Selling woolly wether lambs was McNeil Bros, Kulkami, with 222 Ridgway-blds making $108 to BR&C Swan Hill, Vic.
