AFTER a one-year break, Billabowrie Sunny Queenie returned to claim the senior champion Guernsey ribbon.
The seven-year-old, in-milk cow was previously senior champion at the Royal Adelaide Show in 2015.
Owner Neville Joppich, Manga Farms, Kalangadoo, said they did not show last year because of stresses in the dairy industry, so it did not get a chance to defend its title.
He said it was “fantastic” to come back and win again.
Judge Steve Joyce, Gigarre, Vic, said the winner was a nice representation of the breed.
“It’s the cow we all try to breed,” he said.
“It’s got balance, style, a nice front end and udder – all in a nice package.”
Reserve senior champion went to last year’s intermediate champion, four-year-old Brookleigh Geo Propogate, from Lyndon and Joyce Cleggett, Brookleigh, Glencoe.
Mr Girgarre was impressed with the “excellent” lineup of Guernseys.
“The breed is in a really good place at the moment,” he said.
“It’s a credit to the breeders, the way they’ve brought these all out.”
A “special heifer” with a “cracker udder” was named intermediate champion.
The 2.5-year-old, in-milk Brookleigh TM Bewitch, was shown by Amy Cleggett, Glencoe.
“(The heifer) was right on the money – she’ll stand up anywhere in Australia,” Mr Joyce said.
Reserve was Billabowrie Prada Dream, from Manga Dairy.
Juvenile champion went to the “well balanced, deep ribbed” Keywyn A Levi Star, exhibited by Keywyn Farms, Angaston, who also showed reserve Keywyn Latimer Abby.
