Mutton to $170
THERE were 12,508 lambs and 2580 mutton sold at Ouyen, Vic, on Thursday, April 6.
All weights and grades of lambs were $5 to $10 dearer.
A large consignment of mutton sold to strong competition with the top price reaching $170. This was $15 dearer than the previous sale.
Export crossbred sucker lambs sold from $170-$214 or $6.20-$6.65/kg, trades from $118-$190 or $6.70-$7.20/kg and stores from $93-$135 or $6.60-$7.40/kg.
Topping the market were T&J Lynch, Hattah, Vic, with 91 crossbreds at $214.
Making the second highest price was Heaslip Bros, Motown, Vic, with 49 lambs at $211.
Also selling crossbreds were A Mangan, Bambil, with 104 at $208 and $100 at $197, JA Cullen, Manangatang, Vic, 66 at $206, P&B O’Brien, Speed, 65 at $204, HJ Jolly, Patchewollock, Vic, 42 at $202 and IBS McVicar, Underbool, Vic, 68 at $200.
Other crossbred sellers included H&P Ferguson, Walpeup, 89 at $198, Trigg Farms, Mittyack, Vic, 129 at $195, T Scott, Timberoo, Vic, 29 at $195, F&H Stone, Torrita, Vic, 22 at $188 and G Burns, Tempy, Vic, 43 at $186.
Light Merino lambs made from $105-$137 or $6.10-$6.30/kg and heavies $130-$175 or $6.10-$6.30/kg.
L Plant, Manangatang, sold 90 Merino lambs at $175 and 70 at $166, and Brady Farms, Nandaly, Vic, sold 112 at $161.
SA vendor C&R Beelitz, Parrakie, sold 35 Merino lambs at $162.
Looking at mutton, light types made from $75-$137 or $4.30-$4.70/kg and heavies from $130-$170 or $4.20-$4.70/kg.
SA vendor D&A Hyde, Lameroo, sold 80 mutton at $164.
Tanany Props, Menindee, NSW, sold 105 mutton at $152 and JSJ Pastoral, Broken Hill, NSW, sold 75 at $150.
Selling Dorper lambs were JSJ Pastoral, with 54 at $170, and P&J Rundle, Lameroo, with 46 at $159.
