IT was a strong start to 2017 at Mount Pleasant’s monthly sale on Thursday last week, with sheep and lambs up on pre-Christmas rates and cattle on a par.
Processors competed strongly to secure sheep and lamb numbers.
The top price crossbreds were a pen of 16 from Rondenella, Mount Torrens, which were knocked down to the Australian Lamb Company.
DM&SM Schirmer, Cambrai, sold 26 crossbreds at $144 and a further 34 at $140.
Also selling crossbreds was CJ Kerber, Cockatoo Valley, with 11 at $140.
A pen of 20 sucker lambs from A Cushion, Birdwood, made $117, selling to Austral.
Dorpers made to $140 for seven from S Gordon, Mount Pleasant, and C O’Toole, Rockleigh, sold two Dorpers at $138.
Store lambs made to $118 for 16 from C Duguid, Harrogate.
A pen of 38 young Merino ewes, joined to a Poll Dorset, made $160, selling to Landmark Eudunda, and a further 15 made $150. Hoggets sold to $116 to Austral for 10 from Rosina, Balhannah, while wether hoggets made to $96 for 13 from P Menzel, Sampson Flat.
Looking at cattle, cows made to $1900 for a Poll Hereford from JM&DJ Chambers, Mount Pleasant.
The same vendor also topped the steer section with a Poll Hereford knocked down to Thomas Foods International. Bulls made to $1720 for a Murray Grey from G Benker, Cambrai, sold to Princess Royal.
Meat Barn snapped up the tops of the vealer steers, with three Murray Greys at $1300 from CO Henschke & Co, Craneford.
Mount Pleasant’s weaner sale is being held today from 1pm, and the next regular monthly sale is on Thursday, February 9 at 1pm.
