Tighten your laces and get training – the Northern Argus Clare Valley Half Marathon is less than four months away, and no matter your shape or fitness level, the event organisers will help you get there.
Offering adults the different distances of 21.1 kilometres, 10km and 5km, and children a smaller 1km fun “dash”, organisers South Australian Road Runners (SARRC) are hoping to see more people get to the 2017 event on April 2.
“The best thing about SARRC events is that everyone gets involved and we like to encourage that within our culture, not matter your shape or size,” SARRC spokesperson Benn Gransden said.
“Our club members are made up of people from all walks of life.”
You do not have to be a member of any club to participate, nor do you need to compete on a race-like level as people from all walks of life to achieve personal goals and take in what the regions has to offer.
“People from around Australia and internationally come to run the Clare event, not just because it’s a competition, but because it’s in Clare,” Mr Gransden said.
“People love the scenic views, running the Riesling Trail and enjoying the wine and local foods after competing.”
For people looking for that bit of extra push in training before tackling the half marathon, SARRC said they have a program set up to mentor them.
“People might have their own exercise regime, however, SARRC offers a ‘Marathon Mentor Program’ which includes a program for the 21.1km, 10km and 5km events,” Mr Gransden said.
Early bird registration is now open for the event, with price increasing due to occur on March 3, 2017, at midnight.
Registrations can be either made online at www.sarrc.asn.au or over the phone by calling (08) 7225 1709.
