Organisers of the SA Sheep Expo have called a special general meeting next month to ensure the event continues to go from strength to strength.
The inaugural event, held at the Adelaide Showground in April, was a great success with 60 youth from SA, Vic and WA, but expo chairman Stephen Kellock said they wanted to recruit more committee members to make the 2017 event even better.
“If the expo gets bigger, which we anticipate it will, we will need a few more people on the committee,” he said. “We are looking for anyone interested in educating and advancing young people in the sheep industry to come along and help out.”
Mr Kellock said the event – which covered all facets of the industry from genetics and marketing to auctioneering and butchering – was crucial to encouraging the next generation into the sheep sector.
“There is not enough people coming back to the sheep industry,” he said.
“We need to make sure we are giving young people the opportunity to see what it offers and all the different careers available.”
The December 2 meeting will begin at 1pm in the Adelaide Showground Ringmasters building, and will also include an open forum where attendees will be invited to contribute their ideas about the expo’s future.
The 2017 SA Sheep Expo will be held from April 19 to 21.
