MOUNT PLEASANT
Yarding: 190 cattle, 800 sheep and lambs
Crossbred lambs to $154
Steers to $1980
Cows to $1720
WHILE the yarding at the fortnightly Mount Pleasant market was down due to wet conditions in the Adelaide Hills, prices for sheep and cattle remained strong.
Trade weight steers and crossbred lambs made top dollar, according to Landmark auctioneer Colin Fawcett, with healthy buying competition between processors, feedlots and butchers.
“Cattle prices were very strong and lambs were very much sought after,” he said.
Crossbred lambs sold to $154, with 10 from AJ&MA Baker, Cambrai, bought by Thomas Foods International.
BB&SJ Willison, Birdwood, sold eight crossbred lambs at $154 to Australian Lamb Company, and JI&FA Hentschke, Mount Pleasant, sold 19 at $153 to TFI.
Hoggets sold to $98, while S&C Doecke, St Kitts, sold 13 5.5-year-old ewes at $104 to TFI. TFI also bought the top price steer – a trade weight Hereford – at $1980, while Kangarilla Meats took another for $1900.
CM Bond, Walker Flat, sold two Red Poll milk steers at $1780 to Meat Barn, Murray Bridge.
Laidley Pastoral, Mount Crawford, sold 11 lightweight Hereford steers at $900 to Roseworthy 75.
MC Steinert, Eden Valley, made the highest price for cows, selling an Angus at $1720 to Princess Royal, and another at $1700 to TFI.
Waddamin Holdings, Harrogate, sold a Murray Grey heifer at $1500 to Roseworthy 75, while N Zimmerman, Sedan, sold two Hereford heifers at $1500 to TFI.
Mr Fawcett said sale numbers were subdued because of the weather.
“It was hard to get them in because paddocks were too wet,” he said. “If we get a bit of sunshine, there’ll certainly be a few more in.”
